Arborfield Strategic Development Location (SDL)
The proposed Arborfield Garrison development will have a major impact on the surrounding area. Swallowfield Parish Council has been working with Wokingham Borough Council to understand the implications and ensure our voice is heard in order to protect the rural nature of our parish.
Despite being known as Arborfield Garrison, much of the land to be developed is within the Parishes of Barkham and Finchampstead. An estimated 3,500 homes, a secondary school, two primary schools, community facilities and ’green spaces’ and a new bypass for Arborfield are planned as part of Wokingham Borough Council’s plan to deliver new homes to the borough by 2026. See here for full information http://www.wokingham.gov.uk/planning/planningguidance/sdls/
Community forums and workshops were held in 2012 and 2013 looking at everything from the need for bridleways and footpaths to community facilities and the need for the surrounding infrastructure. Your councillors have been participating. See public notes here http://www.wokingham.gov.uk/communities/communityforums/arborfield/

The consultation on the proposed Arborfield Cross Relief Road has taken place. Please visit www.wokingham.gov.uk/arborfieldreliefroad for details of the route options being considered. The Council will use consultation comments and questionnaire responses to help identify a preferred scheme for Arborfield Cross. It will publish a report on the consultation in spring 2014.
The preferred scheme will be considered by the Council’s Executive in spring 2014. The final choice will need to consider many factors which includes consultations comments, the ‘fit’ with policy, design, transport, viability and environmental impacts as well as being balanced against the views of key stakeholders.
